FreeDOS 是一套開放源碼的 DOS 系統，根據官方網站說明，主要開發目的是:

1. 執行舊式的 DOS 遊戲 (如 DOOM)。
2. 執行一些只支援 DOS 的舊式商業軟件。
3. 支援 embedded DOS system，如電腦收銀機。
